Research Programs

MCIAM targets collaborative research activities in industrially motivated areas of biological, information and optical, environmental, and materials sciences. The Center will develop strategic university-industry collaborative projects in parallel with federally sponsored research projects.

Cutting edge modeling and computational problems are nonlinear, computationally intensive, multi-dimensional, and involve multiple length and time scales. Often, the stumbling block is the lack of highly accurate, efficient, and powerful computational algorithms. Examples of target areas include: computation and modeling in biology and life sciences; modeling in environmental science; computational optics and electromagnetics; computational modeling in nano-scale materials science; computational fluid dynamics (CFD); and control, automation, and artificial intelligence.
